Selena Gomez & The Scene Make Splash

Wow! The debut of Selena Gomez and the Scene's album Kiss & Tell was quite an amazing debut for the band.

In its first week of sales, the group sold 66,000 copies, placing it at #9 on the Billboard 200. That's incredible, especially since Disney barely promoted her!

For some perspective, here is where some other fellow Disney starlets began their debut albums:

Artist name (Album title, Year of release): Copies sold (Debut position on Billboard)
  • Miley Cyrus (Breakout, 2008): 371,000 copies (#1)*
  • Hilary Duff (Metamorphosis, 2003): 300,000 copies (#2)
  • Demi Lovato (Don't Forget, 2008): 89,000 copies (#2)
  • Ashley Tisdale (Headstrong, 2007): 65,000 copies (#5)
  • Vanessa Hudgens (V, 2006): 34,000 copies (#24)
*: Miley's debut album was technically Meet Miley Cyrus, but that was a double disc with Hannah Montana 2. The two-disc album was promoted mostly as Hannah Montana, so its sales don't necessarily represent Miley's popularity, so we decided to put Breakout, her first all-Miley album.
