A Whole New Wardrobe

Ever feel like you have nothing to wear, but have a closet full of clothes?
Sometimes, the hard part about picking an outfit is not that we have nothing to wear, it's that we have too much to choose from. I know I have items from 5+ years sitting in my closet that I have only worn once. While being a student, I learned how to shop on a tight budget and mix old with new to create a fresh new look. Although shopping is fun and admittedly addictive, why not shop in your own closet? Reduce, Recycle, or Recreate.

Here's a few tips on creating a new wardrobe.
Reduce
Get rid of old stuff that you know you will never wear again: If you're still holding onto "your favourite jeans" but never wear those too tight, ripped, missing button jeans, it's time to let go.

Recycle
Pass it on: If you have a friend, or cousin who loves getting hand-me-downs, why not pass your unworn stuff to them? Make sure it's still in good condition and your not giving them your stained clothes, otherwise donate it to your local thrift store or charity.

RECREATE
Pick out the Basics
Black is the new Black: In case you haven't gotten the memo, black matches EVERYTHING. Some may wonder, what about navy blue? Yes, it matches. Pick out your basic black/white/denim/neutral pieces and mix them up. If you want to have a little fun, match patterns with basics or a bright colour with a neutral.

Accessories
Funk it up: A cheap way to make an outfit look more expensive or put together is to complete it with a few accessories. Places like Claire's and Ardene always have sales happening like 10 for $10. You can also try making your own or shopping at a local boutique for some unique pieces.
This scarf $5 from Claire's and the necklace was made by my mom.

Mix and Match
The throw down: Sometimes we get stuck wearing the same pair of jeans with the same top and the same sweater. Now it sounds silly, but I've discovered some new combos while searching through a pile of laundry that I've thrown down on my bed. We don't think that shirt matches that sweater, but when you see them all wrapped up in a ball together you may realize that it actually looks good!

Try something new! Have fun with your clothes and allow them to express your personality. Don't be afraid of what other people may think, because when you feel confident, it shows.
