Disney Developing a New Musical Series

Remember when "Glee" was Fox's response to the success of High School Musical? Well Disney is retaliating and trying to one-up "Glee" with a new single-camera comedy series about a pool of students who are trying to rebuild their school's theater program.

The series, called Madison High, will feature original songs rather than covers. A pilot is being written by Lester Lewis ("The Office", "JONAS L.A.") and preliminary casting is already underway.

It's certainly an interesting concept, but can a show like this really succeed on Disney Channel? A kids network cannot accurately portray high school and wouldn't even be able to touch upon series issues like anti-gay bullying like "Glee" does.

We aren't too optimistic about this idea, but we wouldn't be surprised if it succeeds big time and we have another slew of Mileys and Jonases running around!

"The reason why I wanted to do the movie was because I felt that High School Musical 3 was…there really wasn’t a complete end with my character. She was kinda left behind at the school because she was supposed to be an assistant to Mrs. Darbus and I just felt like she needed to get something.

"I just felt that it was something that would be really fun for the fans to watch and see again. Also, a whole new generation would be watching it as well because everyone is, pretty much; they’re in college they’re kind of experiencing the same thing she’s experiencing in this movie. I just felt like this is character franchise that is really close to my heart so I’m excited to be back and playing her."

Sharpy Adds Yellow to Her Wardrobe

This is so refreshing! We're so used to seeing Ashley Tisdale's character, Sharpay Evans, in pink. But yellow is fun too!!

Ashley is currently in Toronto filming scenes for Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, which will debut on Disney Channel next summer. The film also stars Austin Butler and Bradley Steven Perry and will feature four original songs.

High School Musical 4 Updates

With all this Sharpay madness, we've nearly forgotten about High School Musical 4: East Meets West. The Disney Channel Original Movie is still rumored to be scheduled to premiere this year, but we're sort of doubting that.

As of now, only one cast member has been confirmed, and not even officially, just by the actor himself on his official website. Derek Brough (pictured above) has claimed to have received the role of Jake Fuller. According to unsourced rumors, recording for the soundtrack is underway and song titles include "Welcome Back", "Hot", and "Are You Ready".

Yuck! We're not liking any of this! We certainly hope that Jake Fuller isn't the lead character, because he doesn't have the looks! (Mean, but true; don't say you weren't thinking it too!).

A More Detailed Sharpay Movie Plot

More details on Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure have been released. As of now, this is the plot we have so far: Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) heads to New York with dreams of becoming a Broadway star. Her father is paying for a month's of expenses, but if she doesn't land a leading gig, she will have to return home to Albuquerque to learn the family business. Sharpay finally finds her big break, but soon learns the role is actually for her dog, Boi.

The film also stars Austin Butler (Ashley's Aliens in the Attic costar) as Peyton Leverett, a confident film student; Bradley Steven Perry (Disney Channel's "Good Luck Charlie") as Roger Elliston III, Sharpay's rival and snooty dog owner; Cameron Goodman as a Broadway starlet; and Alec Mapa as Broadway director Gill Samms.

The film is being directed by Michael Lembeck (Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus 2). It will feature four original songs by Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn, Matthew Tishler and Amy Powers, David Lawrence and Faye Greenberg. Reported titles are:
  1. Me and My Boy
  2. The Rest of My Life
  3. I'm Gonna Shine
  4. New York's Best Kept Secret
The plot sounds a bit ridiculous and it's disappointing that we're only getting four songs, but we're still looking forward to this movie! Hopefully it doesn't ruin the goldeness of High School Musical.

She's Back!

Amazing!

Filming for Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure has officially begun filming in Toronto, and Ashley Tisdale has dawned the platinum blonde locks (albeit, a wig) of everybody's favorite East High wildcat, Sharpay!

We can't wait! This time next year, we're all going to be watching the film!

The CW 2010 Upfront Presentation

"I’m doing a Sharpay movie in four days in Toronto, but it’s not really Sharpay. She’s still Sharpay, but she’s now the lead of the movie. You used to love to hate her, but now you have to fall in love with her. You get to see why she is the way she is, you see her in a different light. She’s not in college, but she’s supposed to be. She’s in New York City fulfilling her dreams on Broadway."

Ashley Reveals a Secret About the New Sharpay Movie

We don't know about you, but we are totally stoked for the upcoming Sharpay film!! And Ashley Tisdale has just revealed a very exciting secret: an original High School Musical character will make a cameo!!

So which wildcat do you think it is? Our bet is on Lucas Grabeel, although Vanessa Hudgens has expressed interest in possibly reprising her role as well.

High School Musical Stars are Young Hollywood Royalty

Nylon Magazine's Young Hollywood Party

Nylon and YouTube held a Young Hollywood party and the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles last night (May 11), and naturally the better half the cast of High School Musical showed up. Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens made their first red carpet appearance as a couple in ages while Ashley Tisdale arrived solo.

Zac and Ashley look great, but... What the hell is Vanessa wearing?

New Camp Rock Music Video

Here is the first official music video from Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, which premiered on Disney Channel today (April 25).

We have to say... it's pretty bad. Not only is the song, "Can't Back Down", ridiculous, but the busting-randomly-into-dance just doesn't work as well here as it does in High School Musical.

All in all, we're excited for the movie because of its cross-camp love story. But this music video doesn't make the soundtrack seem too promising.

Vanessa Hudgens May Make Cameo in New Sharpay Flick

LG Mobile Phones & Heidi Klum Celebrate LG Rumorous Night - Inside

OMG we're dying over here!!!

Vanessa Hudgens has stated that she would make a cameo appearance as Gabriella in the upcoming High School Musical spin-off, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, if she was asked!

Oh please, Disney, ask her! Get as many of the original Wildcats as you can!!!

Just in case anyone is lost, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure (which may also be called Broadway Bound or High Spirits) is an upcoming Disney Channel movie that will star Ashley Tisdale as the High School Musical character everyone loves to hate, Sharpay Evans.

Vanessa says, "I’m stoked for [Ashley] and it’s going to be awesome. Kids love Sharpay and I did love Sharpay too, her costumes and her clothes and everything. It’s so much fun, so I’m really glad she’s doing it."

So are we!

The film goes into production this summer and will air on Disney Channel next summer (2011). No word on if it'll be a musical or not, but how can it not be?

Broadway-Bound Sharpay's High Spirits

We were very excited to report last week that Disney Channel will be bringing us a High School Musical spin-off, starring Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay, in 2011.

Originally, it was titled the awful and cheesy Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. Thank God they changed that to Broadway Bound. But now, we're reading that the title has been changed once again to High Spirits, which is an even cheesier title!

Well, whatever the title is, auditions are happening NOW! If you're interested, click here.
