Winehouse Joins UK Millionaire Music Rich List

LONDON (Reuters) - British singer Amy Winehouse joined the elite ranks of music millionaires on Friday but she may struggle to reach the dizzy heights of "wrinkly rockers" like Paul McCartney, the editor of an annual rich list said.

The bee-hived soul singer, whose troubled private life and battle against drug addiction have overshadowed her recording success, is now valued at 10 million pounds ($19.72 million).

"Winning Grammys have given her a really good profile in the United States. She has such a smooth voice but let's hope she doesn't blow it all," Sunday Times Rich List editor Philip Beresford said as the latest millionaire tables were published.

Reality TV winner Leona Lewis is another new entry in the Under-30 category. She was valued at six million pounds after topping the singles and album charts in the United States.

Leading the young millionaires thanks to inherited Beatle wealth is the late George Harrison's guitarist son Dhani. His 160 million pound fortune prompted newspaper headlines like "While their bank accounts gently leap..."

But Beresford told Reuters: "None of these young singers will ever make it to the main rich list as they don't have the legs of the wrinkly rockers."

The young guns are dwarfed by the fortunes of veteran stars like Mick Jagger and Sting, he said.

"They have developed this new industry of massive stadium tours around the world full of relatively wealthy middle-aged fans trying to recapture their youth paying extortionate prices for the privilege," Beresford said.

"Their tours are their pension funds," he said.

Beresford did admit to one Beatle miscalculation over Paul McCartney's fortune which was set at 725 million in last year's list.

"He is now down at 500 million because we over-egged it in the past. But we are not as severe as the judge in his divorce case (against Heather Mills) who put it at 400 million pounds," he said.

Beresford hailed the 300 million pound fortune of Madonna and her film director husband Guy Ritchie as "almost unique."

"She has joined the wrinkly rockers with the big touring income but she also has the record sales which they are not getting anymore," he added.

But Madonna's fortune is dwarfed in Britain's top 50 music millionaires list which is topped, like last year, by Clive Calder, founder of Zomba Records, who is valued at 1.3 billion pounds.

Blake refers to his dad as “Daydream” because of his laid-back attitude and shares his fears that Amy will die before he gets out of prison. He’s hoping rehab will get her off coke and crack which they used to do $1000 worth of everyday, according to News of the World:

"I want Amy to grab this opportunity in rehab so we can have a marriage and future together. Because the way she's going I really fear I will come out of prison to no wife.
"I dread my cell door being opened and the chaplain informing me, ‘Amy's dead.'
"I have that nightmare three or four times a week.

Amy Winehouse is caught on video after smoking crack and admittedly taking six valium. The video was recorded Friday and released today by The Sun. Definitely scope it out. It shows Amy getting her crack on then crawling around barefoot on broken glass trying to find her cat. She’s heard saying:

“If I was that cat I’d leave on my own accord — I’d call a cab. It ain’t right. This ain’t Toys R Us. They took my cat.”

Because apparently to Amy Winehouse, Toys R Us is an appropriate place to smoke crack and leave broken glass lying around. I’ve been saying this for years, but it’s nice to hear someone else say it for once.

Fun Fact: Amy Winehouse once punched through a tank to get a McDonald’s caramel sundae. Also, yes, she is indeed sniffing her cleavage and then grimacing in the last two photos.

Amy Winehouse has sparked new concerns for her health after she revealed an bandage on her arm during a shopping spree in London.

The troubled singer was out last night with her father Mitch and some friends when she removed off her black jacket in the clothes store in front of the shopkeeper to try on a hooded jumper.



During the quick strip, the Rehab star showed off a gauze strapped across the veins of her right arm.

While the cause of the injury is unclear, one thing is for certain - her red bra is definitely a favourite.

It made its first appearance last month when Amy was spotted wandering the streets of London's Bow in the middle of the night.

Earlier this month, as she returned from the Caribbean, it made another public appearance when she stripped at Heathrow airport to change her top.

Amy has been struggling to cope while her husband Blake Fielder-Civil is in prison awaiting trial for perverting the course of justice, a charge which he denies.

This shopping trip was her first public appearance since she attended Blake's hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday.



As her husband was led back into custody she interrupted court proceedings to shout: "Love you handsome. Gorgeous one."

She then rounded on reporters sitting in court and yelled: "I wasn't talking to you."

Blake's legal team revealed he "would plead not guilty" at a later date and said it was possible his counsel may attempt to dismiss the charges all together.

Another preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 15 and the trial, focusing on perverting the course of justice charges for all five men, is scheduled for June 2, 2008.

Amy Winehouse was arrested this afternoon in London for perverting the course of justice, according to TMZ. She was scheduled to be questioned by police today about her husband’s trial-rigging scheme that has him currently locked in prison. Apparently things didn’t go well.

Granted, it’s common procedure to question the wife when her husband’s been arrested. But, honestly, what kind of information did police hope to garner from Amy Winehouse? She can’t even remember the words to her own music. It’d be like questioning a six-year-old but without the convenience of complete sentences.
